Tyler Childers: COUNTRY SQUIRE Music Video

Tony

As you may have noticed, it’s been kinda quiet around here for the last few months.

If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been up to, well, I’ve had my nose to the proverbial grindstone on my latest collaboration with Tyler… and here it is:

I had pretty much nothing in my portfolio or resumé that would show a reasonable executive that I was capable of handling such a thing, and so I am honored beyond words that Tyler and his crew took a chance on me, trusting me with the reins for this project. I wrote, designed, storyboarded, and directed this video, and thanks to the outstanding animators at Bomper Studio, I cannot fathom being more pleased with how it turned out.

If you like what you see and hear here, be sure to check out TYLER CHILDERS’ YOUTUBE CHANNEL for other videos, including the Grammy-nominated ALL YOUR’N, which I did some design work for!

New THREADLESS Shop is online!

Tony

So, I’ve added a new option for MERCH, signing up for one of Threadless’ Artist Shops!

My first round of stuff is a set of facemasks, featuring the artwork from Tyler Childers’ COUNTRY SQUIRE album. The proceeds from these masks go toward Threadless’ Covid-19 initiative to benefit MEDSHARE.

I’ve also added a couple of LI’L BAPHOMET masks, and a slew of other merch I’d never be able to produce on my own, from tank tops, to hoodies, to kids’ clothes, and even home accessories!

Check it out at http://TonyMoore.threadless.com !

Also, from here on out, there will be a THREADLESS link up in the SHOP menu at the top of this page.

Sketch of the Day! DONALD TRUMP

Tony

Hail to the King Baby.

It is my firm belief that the Trump administration is going to be absolute poison for our country. He and his appointed cronies strike me as hell-bent on undoing as much social, educational, and scientific progress as they can get their hands on, pledging to defund the arts, public schools, and healthcare at every turn. One major institution which has come under extreme fire both figuratively and literally is Planned Parenthood. Politicians on the Right have gone out of their way to vilify this service, but the truth is, no federal funds are used for abortions, and Planned Parenthood provides crucial health services such as screenings, preventive care, birth control, and much much more to women and families of all walks of life, urban and rural alike, and is often the primary source of care for women in poverty.

And so, I'm offering up this image, and
I'LL BE DONATING 100% OF THE PROCEEDS TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD!
I'm selling the ORIGINAL ART, and also these $10 ART PRINTS.

Happy Birthday, Jack Kirby!

Tony

Jack Kirby was the undisputed King of Comics. Nobody before him or since has rivaled the intensity of his output or his feverish creativity. Most of what we know and love in comics is either derived from or came directly from his hand. We all salute this man, who was the paragon of our craft.

This is the design sketch for a little tribute to Kirby that i stuck into my run on Punisher: Franken-Castle, which is the stained glass window from the monsters' church, featuring Kirby's monsters and his vision of God himself, based on several drawings he had done, which may look familiar to readers who remember another iteration of God I have drawn in some comics.

Cynthiana, KY to celebrate THE WALKING DEAD DAY!

Tony

On August 6th, 2016, my dear ol' hometown of Cynthiana, KY is celebrating THE WALKING DEAD DAY, to honor the the series and its creators, Robert Kirkman and myself. Fans of the comics will know that not only do Robert and I hail from there, but it's also the site of the opening scenes of THE WALKING DEAD, and the home of Rick Grimes himself!

There will be a sign dedicated to us at the edge of town, as well as a massive zombie apocalypse street festival, complete with signings and photo ops with me and Robert, and a fantastic special reprint of THE WALKING DEAD #1 sporting a brand new exclusive cover featuring the the town of Cynthiana!

Rest in Peace, JACK DAVIS.

Tony

It breaks my heart to know that Jack Davis, last of the EC Comics legends, is gone.

Though our personal interactions were few, they will always be held among my most cherished memories. Jack Davis was THE cartoonist of the 20th century, and even until the end, he remained a consummate professional and southern gentleman. The last time I called a few months back, his wife had told me he may not be up to a conversation because he wasn't feeling well. He happily took my call and though I could tell from his speech he'd recently had a stroke, he didn't rush me off the line and invited me to stay in touch. The few phone conversations we had fundamentally changed my entire outlook on cartooning and life in general.

Mr Davis is the single most influential and inspirational figure to me as an artist. When i was a little kid, probably no more than 4 or 5 years old, he was the first artist i could recognize by style alone from his work in MAD Magazine. He left an indelible mark upon me before i was even old enough to read, let alone understand what was happening in my psyche. Last year, I did my first work for MAD, which was a Davis homage mock "Tales From The Crypt" cover. A lifetime of obsessing over his lines and stealing all my best moves from him had still not prepared me for attempting to enter his headspace as a craftsman, and the entire exercise profoundly deepened my appreciation for what he had done.

While tonight I mourn the loss of perhaps the greatest talent cartooning has ever known, I personally celebrate the depth and magnitude of his work every day.
